WebApr 9, 2017 · If the HG is leaking it is pushing gases into the cooling system which is displacing the coolant. Then when the truck cools down the coolant is low in the radiator and the coolant recovery bottle still has excess coolant in it. FWIW when my HG went bad it would only fill up the coolant recovery bottle when towing, especially up a grade.

I have to be super careful taking the cap off, because there is so much pressure building up that it will blow the cap out of the air and shoot a geyser of coolant 15' in the air.

I do have heat in cab. After driving around today at normal temp the upper radiator hose is hot and the lower is lukewarm. 2008 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4x4. LMM 281K miles.

I run an edge juice programmer and always keep it in "drive" tune unless towing. I drive about 500 miles a week and recently on a trip I noticed my coolant and oil temps reaching 215-220 unloaded.

WebJan 8, 2013 · Cat oil is high, high, high. There are several manufactures of oil that are Cat/TO-4 compliant. I use Conoco hydraulic oil and Trans/final drive oil.
